History of Araby
My love affair with Boxers began in 1954 when my parents brought home a flashy fawn male Boxer named Brutus of Babb Road. We lived in Arlington, VA and Brutus was undoubtedly from one of the local Boxer breeders in the area. He was a rather handsome male and the Northern Virginia area at that time was the seed bed for a number of top Boxer kennels. I suspect he was a well bred dog but our family did not really care, as he was our beloved pet. Brutus was mated with a female from the Crescent Lane lines and along came Pixie, a rather petite flashy fawn bitch. By then we had moved to a large rural property in McLean, VA. Pixie, of course, had to have a more regal name so she became Miss Pixie of Poison Ivy Acres!

In 1968, while still in high school, I purchased a plain fawn male, again named Brutus, after our first dog. Brutus was a pet who came from excellent bloodlines. He had a combination of Curundu, Salgray, and Carlwen from Wendy Ness' kennel and other old lines. When I left for college, I gave the dog to my sister who registered him as Tojo's Trouble Shooter (shown left). This dog produced a son, Sohn's Summation, who, when bred to Laurel Hill's Gypsy Charm in the early 1980's, produced CH JoDoll's Preferred Stock, who won Grand Sweepstakes at the ABC Regional in Washington State.
During my Senior year at Arizona State University, I purchased two young female Boxers, ostensibly to show. While they did not turn out to be show dogs, they did lead me to meeting my first husband, Chuck Mitchell, at a Boxer Club of Arizona puppy match. He was there with a young male Boxer he had gotten from Dick and Ida Baum. Chuck and I married and immersed ourselves in Boxers. His Moon Valley's Gingerbread Man, or Bobby, was a Peck's Bad Boy who became my first CD Obedience dog.
The acquisition of Moon Valley’s Merry Weather LOM from Ida Baum in 1974 marked the beginning of the Araby Boxers current lineage. The dogs represented on this website are all descendants of her, primarily through careful line breeding back on Ch Araby’s Shortstop and his two brothers Ch Moon Valley’s Solar Flare SOM and CH Moon Valley’s Sun N Shadow LOM.
