Breeder: Ida Baum
Owner: Patricia Dollar

I acquired Merry from Ida Baum as a rescue. Merry had been
sold as a puppy to a man who wanted a show bitch but did not have the resources
to properly care for the dog. Merry had been “ruined“ for show from the start.
From the butchered ear crop to the surgical removal of her haws, she never had
a chance at becoming the champion she so richly deserved.
One day in 1974 we
received a phone call from Ida about Merry.
It seems that the owner had returned her. The Baum’s were getting ready
to leave that day for a move to Ohio
where Dick had a new job. Dick did not
like the bitch and told Ida she had to find a home for her immediately, as she
was not going to Ohio
with them. After hearing her story we
agreed to come over and take Merry so she would not end up at the pound. When we got to the Baum’s we saw a rather
thin flashy brindle bitch with terrible ears but the most beautiful boxer body
and sweet face. We were smitten. Merry
came home to live with us until she died at age 12.
Merry was bred twice to CH Von Schorer’s Moon Shadow. The
first litter produced 3 Sires of Merit and one LOM. A fourth unfinished male
also produced one champion.

In 1977 Ida returned to Arizona after she and Dick divorced. I had just repeated the breeding of Merry to
Shadow. Noticing that Ida had no young
bitches from her tail female line I made a gift of one of the females in the repeat
breeding to her so she could continue on with her program. That bitch was Araby Made In Moon
Valley dam of Moon Valley’s
Summer Shade DOM.
Merry’s get are behind many of today’s
top producing pedigrees. It is clear that her contribution to the Boxer breed
will continue to be seen for years to come.
